When finding this article I immediately thought to myself, how is the American Addiction centers news source recovery.org post an article about how social media can be good for body image?? People go to treatment facilities for ED’s (Eating Disorders) and Addiction (Social media). This article immediately drew my attention due to the fact it just doesn’t make sense. While reading this article I found that there was a lot of research conducted on how social media positively affects body image. The first quote stood out to me because there was evidence and numbers conducting the research of how social media negatively affects body image, although the title of it comes off to be a pro rather than a con. But an important quote I’ve picked from this article was “At the same time, several studies have elucidated factors that protect and bolster body image, mood, and self-esteem. Chief among them: Self-compassion, which involves adopting a more accepting view of oneself with an understanding that so-called ‘flaws’ or ‘mistakes’ are natural and inevitable aspects of being human. So, what I’ve retrieved from that is if you understand that having flaws is just human nature and everyone has them.. What social media does is… boost self-compassion? I’m sure that going on certain social media accounts allows individuals to develop new and cool characteristics and ideas that they would want to do, but how?
